Zo is so honest and direct, it will make most people cringe once in awhile. What I admire most about him is that he doesn't let anybody put him in a box - by that, I mean tell him his ethnic background dictates what he should believe.
This book may reveal to you ways in which constant media coverage from their preferred angles has left us with certain presuppositions that may be unfounded. There were times, when reading this book, that my visceral reaction was, "you can't say that ... it's not politically correct". Zo would agree it's not, but that doesn't mean it's not accurate. By following the lead of the media, we've backed ourselves into a corner where we are not permitted to think independently and critically if we're not staying within the lines of media-established philosophical norms,which include historical inaccuracies. You may disagree with 95% of this book, but it will still make you think. I wish he included more data, but he does have some data that will surprise most people.
Last thing - Zo is fiercely partisan - more than I am. I don't like either of the major political parties because they have more similarities than differences, when it really comes down to it. But Zo makes a good case for his appreciation of the GOP - especially when he corrects a lot of EXTREMELY common misconceptions about the two major parties going back more than a century. Everybody can learn from this book, and it's an easy read, with a lot of personality. I'm never going to be as partisan as he is, because I think both parties are kicking the can down the road rather than addressing the fiscal issues that will bring our nation to its knees once debtors start calling. But there are some intriguing points made in this book.
If you have not seen Alfonzo Rachel’s ZoNation videos on PJTV then you are really missing something. I do not believe that there is anyone out there so consistently and zealously making the case for conservatism as Mr. Rachel, or Zo as he is called. Think of Rush Limbaugh, only younger, more energetic and cooler. Zo’s rapid speed delivery anticipates and blows away the arguments that liberals make before they even have a chance to make them.
Zo’s book, Weapon of A.S.S.Destruction began as an audio book and I believe that the printed book that I read is a transcription of that audio book. The book reads just as Zo speaks and I can almost hear his voice as I read it. The style is fun and easy to follow with Zo giving his take on one conservative issue after another. I was finished with Weapon of A.S.S Destruction almost before I even began.
If Zo has a fault, and we all do, it is that he does tend to talk and write faster than he thinks. The views he expresses so well can be somewhat simplistic and he does need to take more time to establish the facts to support his positions and think through these positions a little more thoroughly. With that said, however, I can recommend Weapon of A.S.S. to any reader, especially the novice conservative and I think that it will make an excellent Christmas, sorry Holiday, gift to any liberal of your acquaintance.
This book is stunning! As a writer and a political commentator I’ve faced the challenge of presenting liberal ideology in an understandable fashion. I’ve also seen many attempts to do so by far greater masters than myself, such as Ludwig von Mises, William F. Buckley Jr., Mark Levin, Michelle Malkin and many others, but I’ve never seen it done so effectively as it is done here.
Also appealing is his magnificent ability to weave Christian philosophy into his case. As a religious skeptic, ranging from periods of atheism to agnosticism, from Mormonism to Buddhism, and settling at present on basic Christianity from a philosophical standpoint rather than a traditional a traditional “faith,” this work added fuel to my pro-Christianity fire.
It is brilliant work done in a relatively, off the cuff fashion. Far removed from a great deal of pro-Christian writing which comes across as a writer looking down his/her nose at the poor ignoramuses who’ve missed the Christian boat. Rather than coming across as preachy Rachel simply illuminates the similarities between conservative principle and Biblical teachings and the diabolical similitude modern liberalism holds with the Biblical representation of the intention of Satan.
The Religious aspect of this work is intriguing, unusual, and refreshing, but Rachel’s look at the historical relationship between racism and the history of the Democrat/Republican parties is a real eye opener. All easily verifiable, historically accurate, yet totally against the grain of common modern belief.
The bottom line is that this is one of the most easily enjoyed blends of logically sensible, politically astute and spiritually inspiring books I’ve ever read. That it was written by a conservative, black, rock musician (20 lb Sledge) makes it absolutely unique.
